St Peter’s students get a taste of life at college restaurant

Year 10 students at St Peter’s Bournemouth had a fantastic day at Bournemouth and Poole college's Escoffier restaurant recently.

Once again, we were blown away by the experience the college provided. Nathan Mizen was superb at supporting our students, allowing them to work with Chef Alderman and Chef Marshall, to create their main dish and desserts in the college's professional kitchens.

Students worked extremely hard producing lemon chicken with egg fried rice, also vegetable curry with pilau rice. Desserts were a beautiful coconut panna cotta, pineapple and mango samosa and mango coulis.

We met with students from the specialised chef’s course, who were making puff pastry. They gave us some exciting insights into the industry, including their placements at high-end hotels. The amazing Debbie Sherman made us some puff pastry delights which we shared.

The students were waited upon by the current hospitality and catering students, an exciting experience as we sat down to dine in the newly decorated Escoffier restaurant. It looks really beautiful!

As always, it's a pleasure to work with the team and with some of our current Year 11's gaining places on the specialised chef's course, we are working closely to provide our students with even more exciting post-16 opportunities.

We would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Nathan Mizen, Chef Alderman, Chef Marshall and Chef Sherman for a wonderful day, packed with information and invaluable experiences. The new Escoffier restaurant is open Mon-Fri for lunch at 12 noon. Or Tues, Wed and Thursday evenings for dinner from 7pm. The booking line number is 01202 205874.

Bar Mock Squad

St Peter’s Bar Mock squad, comprising students from Year 10 and 11, have won the Southampton Regional Heat for the seventh time.

As a result, the squad has been invited to compete in the Bar Mock National Final at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on 16 March.

Well done to everyone involved.
