St Peter’s open doors to ‘Exploring Together’ initiative

St Peter’s Catholic School opened their Chapel doors to parents and carers for a new initiative ‘Exploring Together’. In an increasing secular world, sharing our faith, encouraging young people and keeping them excited about their faith can be a challenge for us all.

St Peter’s Chaplaincy have teamed up with local parishioners and school Governors to give parents and carers the opportunity to come together to ask questions about our faith, share experiences, ideas and support each other in our faith journey.

Our first session was warmly received, with lots of questions and sharing. Parents expressed a particular interest in exploring more about the Sacraments, different forms of praying with young people and how religious education is taught within school. Our hope is to come together to increase personal understanding of our faith and support parents and carers in sharing this with their children.

Please pray for this new and exciting initiative as we explore together over the next six weeks.

Royal Academy of Art workshop

Thank you to Subject Leader for Art & Photography, Chris Francis, a group of our Year 13 Art students - Giles Holloway, Sophie Hazell, Filip Czwojdrak and Samantha Aguilar, who, together with ex-student artist Nancy Lawford, artist Will Nicholls, and Art & Photography Teacher Alex Clarke, did a wonderful job running a conceptual art workshop, as part of an event organised by the Royal Academy of Art.

They also enjoyed attending the Michael Craig Martin exhibition and lecture and were rewarded with gifts from the education team at the Royal Academy.

 SPEAK UP Year 7 Concert

On Tuesday October 15th, in the De La Salle Theatre, students from Year 7 performed a selection of songs they have been studying and preparing for during lesson time as part of their schemes of work. This project brought together the year group together and encourage their awareness of community, identity and mental health.

The inspiration for this project was born from the difficult time Year 7 had returning to school, post-COVID, combined with transitioning to a new school. There is proof that singing together relieves stress and can help communities bond, and we saw this happen with groups in previous years. We hope that the continuation of this project helps our current Year 7 to start their new year on a confident footing.

Author Lucy Clarke visit

Former student, Lucy Clarke, returned to the school to talk about her inspiring journey from her time at St Peter's to becoming a Sunday Times best-selling author.
