St Margaret Ward students explore ‘growth’ on retreat

At St Margaret Ward, we had our last residential retreat of the year, where 30 students and staff visited the Castlerigg Retreat centre in the Lake District. The students explored the theme of ‘Growth’, looking at both themselves and their communities, considering how they have grown as new members of our school community and what they can give to the different communities they are part of.

The students enjoyed a variety of activities, from a long walk on the Tuesday afternoon, exploring the beautiful countryside. They also got to visit the picturesque town of Keswick and explore the market, as well as various small group activities, sports and time to relax in the beautiful surroundings of the Castlerigg centre.

Students said how much they enjoyed being outdoors, and we were blessed with a week a lovely weather, they also enjoyed spending time with each other and with the staff from the centre.

One of our students said ‘Castlerigg has been the best retreat ever! Makes me want to go on more retreats near the Lake District’.

Founder’s Day 2023

On Friday May 12th, students and staff at St Margaret Ward celebrated Founder’s Day, the feast of St John-Baptiste De La Salle. This is a really special day to mark the influence of a man who had a profound impact on education, teaching and the lives of many young people.

To celebrate the day, we started with a whole-school reflection on the life of De La Salle, including our annual tradition of sharing ‘Thank you’ cards. Students and staff were invited to write thank you cards to be shared around the school, to say thank you for the hard work that goes into making our school such a positive place to be.

In the run up to Founder’s Day, students across the school took part in the Lasallian Awards programme. In total, we had 168 entries across the school, which is a fantastic effort by so many amazing students committed to putting our values in practice.

Later in the day, some of our students joined the District service which was a great opportunity to share and pray with our wider Lasallian family.

Finally, at end the day, the staff gathered to enjoy scones and No-secco. A great way to round off a day of celebrations in the middle of a busy term!
