St Gerald’s students learning about community engagement

On Friday 13th, St Gerald’s De La Salle College LCA students, accompanied by their teacher Ms. Flynn, visited Castlebar Men’s Shed as part of their Community Work module. This module is designed to introduce students to the vital work of community and voluntary organisations, enhancing their awareness and understanding of community engagement and encouraging them to identify opportunities for making a positive contribution.

Upon arrival, the students received a warm welcome and were given a tour of the premises, including the workshop, where they learned about the ethos of the shed and its community volunteering efforts. The students also enjoyed a cup of tea and had the opportunity to chat with the members, fostering a sense of connection and community spirit.

A special thanks to Castlebar Men’s Shed for accommodating our visit. Their mission to promote and protect the well-being of men in our community - both physically and mentally -resonates deeply with the values we aim to instil in our students. It was a lovely and enriching morning for everyone involved.
