Churchtown open day is a record-breaking success

On Tuesday, September 17th, De La Salle College Churchtown had the privilege of hosting an exceptional Open Day, inviting the local community, families, and prospective students to tour our school. The event was a tremendous success, with record-breaking numbers of visitors exploring our campus.

Prospective students and their parents were treated to a comprehensive tour, where they had the opportunity to see our classrooms, the brand-new state-of-the-art Home Economics room, our cutting-edge technology department, the woodwork and technical graphics rooms, and our extensive sports facilities, including two full-size pitches, the fully equipped gym, and the PE hall. Additionally, they visited our library, home rooms, music room, computer lab, and other classrooms, meeting and greeting teachers along the way.

One of the highlights of the tour was a stop in the assembly hall, where visitors had the chance to meet our principal, Ms. Siobhan Foster, and our deputy principal, Mr. Michael Kirwan. Families enjoyed a relaxed chat with both school leaders over a cup of tea and gained valuable insights into life at De La Salle College.

The true stars of the day were our student ambassadors, who guided families through the school and helped, along with the teachers, organise engaging activities in different rooms.

 Some of the highlights included:

·         Music Room: Visitors got to try out various instruments.

·         Art Room: Guests participated in lino printing activities.

·         Religion Class: A display of world religions sparked curiosity.

·         History Room: Past students’ projects were showcased, and visitors enjoyed a presentation on history by one of our history teachers.

·         Maths Room: Students and parents enjoyed playing interactive Blooket games.

·         French Room: Attendees conversed in French and learned popular phrases from our students.

·         English Room: Creative bookmark-making was a hit, with each participant receiving a unique keepsake.

·         PE Hall: Visitors sampled activities like badminton, football, basketball, and obstacle courses.

·         Science Lab: Prospective students crafted fascinating pneumatic monsters.

·         Home Economics Room: Guests tried their hand at baking, icing, and, of course, tasting their delicious creations.

Teachers were on hand to answer questions throughout the tour, ensuring a welcoming and informative experience for all. We were thrilled with the overwhelming turnout and look forward to seeing many of these prospective students join us as future De La Salle College students.
