Schools connect to remember people in Ukraine
De La Salle School, St Helens, continue to be very active on a number of fronts and in recent weeks they have connected with colleagues in De La Salle, Jersey, to remember the people of Ukraine, while they are also in the process of getting ready to welcome the new members of the 1719 society.
Making connections in the Lasallian Community
Following on from a fruitful CHoRE convention in Kintbury, De La Salle St Helens and De La Salle Jersey collaborated virtually to put together a short service of reflection last Thursday, to remember the people of the Ukraine.
The service was led by animators and the young people in both schools. There was an introduction from both schools, an overview and reminder from Mrs Rooney to students of our core principles and how we can live them out in our day to day lives. Mrs Young then led a reflection about social justice and justice for the people of Ukraine.
The students closed with prayers, and we lit a candle as a reminder of unity and hope. The session ended with an informal chat amongst the students, and this has generated much discussion since about how we are going to work together in the future. We are hoping to start a pilot penpal exchange next term and hope to strengthen our connection in the coming years.
De La Salle St Helens 1719 Society
The students in the Society have been busy getting ready to handover the baton to our new society. Last week they helped to run a selection day for new applicants. Here are some of the photographs from the Selection Day.
The selection Day started with a live call from Eleanora Munaretto, International Volunteer Co Ordinator who talked to the students about opportunities within the network both at home and abroad. They then had a session about mission, core values and sustaining the ethos of JBDLS. Our Chaplain Sam led an interactive session on leadership and personality types using the Myers Briggs type indicator. This generated lots of positive discussion and from this the society put students into working groups to deliver a presentation. Once the presentations have taken place students will be selected for interview and the new society will take up their posts after the Easter break. Our current 1719 Society have worked hard during this most unusual year to uphold many aspects of the mission and have built a foundation stone which future students can build on. Their goodness, good will and commitment and support of the new society has meant they have left their own legacy which they should be proud of.
