Remembering Holocaust at St Joseph’s Beulah Hill

St Joseph’s College, Beulah Hill, are pleased to say that, Chapel Assemblies have returned to the Chapel. The theme of these assemblies was Holocaust Memorial. The official Holocaust Memorial Day was Thursday, 27th January. It is a day where we remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of others killed under Nazi persecution of other groups.

The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust also encourages us to remember the other genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. January 27th marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.

Regarding this, Pope Francis said: “It is necessary to remember the extermination of millions of Jews and people of different nationalities and religious faiths.” He added: “This unspeakable cruelty must never be repeated. I appeal to everyone, especially educators and families, to foster in the new generations an awareness of the horror of this black page of history. It must not be forgotten, so that we can build a future where human dignity is no longer trampled underfoot.”

Chaplain, Theo Arthur, shared with you the prayer written by St Pope John Paul II, at the Western Wall on March 26, 2000:

God of our fathers, you chose Abraham and his descendants to bring your Name to the Nations:

We are deeply saddened by the behaviour of those who in the course of history have caused these children of yours to suffer, and asking your forgiveness we wish to commit ourselves to genuine brotherhood with the people of the Covenant.

Amen
