Online learning from a teacher’s perspective

Rossana Rizzo has written a short article about her experience in teaching De La Salle and Stella Maris students who are vulnerable and were unable to attend to school physically during Covid time.

I can honestly say that it was a wonderful experience. It has never happened in the past and I am proud that it worked out perfectly well for a whole scholastic year. These students have managed to complete the whole syllabus and hence are all able to sit for their annual examinations.

Mr. Stephen Cachia, together with the Senior Management Team from both schools, played an important role in this adventure as they were the ones who came up with this fantastic idea and organised it.  I happily welcomed this idea and agreed to take on this role of teaching students from both schools. It was quite an experience, learning about the different backgrounds and I also enjoyed the fact of how the two schools collaborated with each other.

During my years (nine in all) teaching at De La Salle College under the superb guidance of Mrs. Mariella Vella, I was always proud to form part of the Lasallian Family. This year, even more proud,  because we have put in practice what we preach. We have managed to step up from our comfort zone and helped these students during this difficult time.

We have definitely followed our dear Founder’s footsteps and the 5 Core Principles. Students from both schools have witnessed quality education within an inclusive community, respect, genuine concern and last but not least  faith in the presence of God by commencing our daily lessons with this important phrase for us Lasallians ‘Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God, let us adore him.’

Live Jesus in our hearts...Forever!
