Mental Health Week in Beneavin

The TALK group in Beneavin De La Salle College organised Mental Health Week 2022 and held it from January 24th to 28th. The group is made up of students from TY and 5TH year. The aim of this group is to promote positive mental health among the school community. There were lots of workshops and guest speakers throughout the week. We had Rory O'Connor (Rory's Stories), Gary Cunningham, Dublin footballer Shane Carthy, SPUNOUT, Joanne and Stephen from Future Steps, Jason Joyce as well as Matt Burke (Magic Mind Podcast).

Jackie Fox told the story of her daughter Nicole and her legacy - Coco’s Law.  This law has recently been introduced in Ireland to prosecute people who abuse others online.  Jackie told the story of how her daughter took her own life after suffering bullying and abuse online and in person.

There was ZUMBA for 1st and 2nd Years, Wellness Walks, Mindfulness workshops, rock painting workshops and drama workshops  On the final afternoon there was a whole school quiz for all students and staff.  There were various competitions throughout the week, Art, photography and creative writing. There was a positivitree created with contributions from all members of the school community.

On the final day a tree was planted by the TALK Group. Spending time around trees and looking at trees reduces stress and has a positive impact on one's mental health. There was also a fundraiser for Cycle Against Suicide.
