Churchtown programme promotes passion for community

An essential element of a quality education at De La Salle Churchtown is to ensure our students understand the importance of playing a positive role in the community. This is especially evident in our Transition Year Programme. For the last number of years we have developed a very successful Sports Coaching module as an option for our Transition Year students.

In this module students get an opportunity to work with qualified coaches from a number of sporting organisations including, IRFU, FAI, GAA, and Irish Rowing. They complete a number different courses and lessons in order to learn the skills required to be a coach as well as specific skills for the different sports. They then spend time peer teaching and planning sessions before visiting local Primary Schools to run a series of coaching sessions in each of the sporting disciplines.

We are very thankful to the many local Primary Schools who facilitate our students. This year we are working with four local Primary schools, Divine Word NS, Our Lady’s Boys NS, Rathfarnham Educate Together NS, and St Louis Senior Primary School.

This programme allows our students to develop vital interpersonal skills as well as developing a passion for community service, we look forward to growing this programme into the future.
