Beneavin students taking part in many activities

Students and staff at Beneavin De La Salle College have been taking part in many activities of late, including celebrating St Brigid’s Day and the Feast of St Blaise, along with taking part in a sleep-out, while Transition Year students put their work on display.

Sleep out for the Peter McVerry Trust
As part of their personal development class, and in partnership with Localise (a youth and community organisation operating since 1972. Directly engaging young people in structured community service) Transition Year students organised a class sleep out in order to raise fund for the Peter McVerry Trust. This student-led project saw students sleep in the school car park on Friday 4th February. The sleep out ran from 8pm to 8am, and students braved the elements to raise awareness of the plight of those on our streets. To date students have collected €2200 for the cause.

St Brigid’s Day Activities
On the 1st of February, students in Beneavin celebrated St Brigid’s Day. Many classes engaged in lessons about the Saint, and created beautiful coloured St Brigid’s Crosses for display. Students from the student council, the T.A.L.K mental health awareness team, LaSallian prefects and students involved in the Localise programme joined LeCheile schools across the country to celebrate student action, and discuss and share some of the wonderful student action going on in Beneavin De La Salle College.

The Feast of St Blaise
Students spent some time learning about St Blaise during religion class - after which students expressed an interest to have their throats blessed.

Along with their class tutor, and religion teacher, the class of 1 O'Donovan attended mass in St Canice’s Church to celebrate the feast day.

They were commended for their excellent engagement in the Mass and were great ambassadors for the school.

TY Mid-Year display
In January the Transition Years had their Mid-Year display of work.  This is an annual event.  It gives TY students the opportunity to display their presentations and projects to date.  Well done to the Transition Year students on the wonderful display of work.  Students from third year viewed the work.  This is a great opportunity for the third years to see what Transition Year is all about before they decide on their next step.  This can help students get insight into what TY has to offer as well as a chance to meet the current classes to get more information.  A great effort put in by all students and fantastic team work from all involved #qualityeducation
