Memorable time for all at Induction CPD in Malta

A truly memorable District Lasallian Induction CPD came to a conclusion on Wednesday August 24th at the La Salle Retreat Centre, Mellieha, where a combination of wonderful and enthusiastic participants, perfect hosts and brilliant presenters made this a magnificent experience for all.

Led by the Director of Formation and Vocation Ministry, Jo Millea, and the Office of Mission team, this superbly organised event helped further develop an understanding of the Lasallian story and values for the 17 participants from schools and pastoral centres across the District.

The group, which included two colleagues from Belgium, embraced the experience with great energy and their journey over the course of the seven days saw them share experiences, knowledge, and laughter, resulting in a palpable strengthening of the Lasallian ethos.

The success of the event was not confined to the wonderful presentations, but the special bond that was generated during the many social activities, ensured that friendships and connections have been created that will serve to strengthen the sense of community across the District.

Participants and organisers alike left Mellieha energised by the sense of fun, passion and commitment which made this such a worthwhile gathering, with the magnificent hospitality of Sammy, Yvonne and the team, setting the tone.

The programme began on Thursday August 18th with Jason Poole charting the Founder’s Story, followed by Jo Millea detailing the transition from Brothers’ schools to Lasallian schools. On Friday, Mariella Vella introducing the Lasallian Identity Framework (LIF) and also outlined the pastoral aspect of a teaching profession/youth ministry/chaplaincy.

On Friday evening, the group visited De La Salle College and Stella Maris College. Colleagues from our schools in Malta showed participants around the various schools.  At the end of the day the group was hosted for dinner by the Stella Maris College Community.

Saturday morning saw Heather Ruple present, “Understanding Our Lasallian Prayer Traditions” and “Our one wild and precious life: A Culture of Vocations and our Vocational Journeys”.

Jason Poole present ‘One’s Faith Journey: a Culture of Vocation’, followed by Heather Ruple discussing ‘Lasallian Prayer: a ritual or way of life?’

On Monday, Brother Visitor, Ben Hanlon – whose presence over the course of the week was truly inspirational – spoke about Christian/Servant Leadership styles of interaction with those we serve, while the course was completed on Tuesday with Jo Millea outlining the concept of Lasallian Community within the Lasallian Family.

The CPD allowed the participants to explore the many issues raised during group work and workshops, while the ‘Idea Swap’ saw a sharing of some wonderful Lasallian initiatives within their school or pastoral centre.

The programme took place each morning, leaving participants the afternoon and evening to enjoy social activities, with the highlight for many being the day-trip to the stunning island of Gozo on Sunday.

Prayers each day were organised by Stan Millea and contributed greatly to the atmosphere of the week, while the programme was concluded with a Mass and barbecue on Tuesday evening.
