Alessia Russo, who attended St Simon Stock Catholic School up to 2017, has been an inspirational figure for England, with a number of eye-catching displays, including scoring against Norway and Northern Ireland (2) in the group stages. The 23-year-old then transformed England after being introduced as a sub against Spain in the quarter-final by setting up the equalising goal for Ella Toone before the hosts went on to win in extra-time.
The Manchester United player received her first call up to the England senior squad in February 2020, when she was named in the group for the She Believes Cup in the USA.
After initially being selected as a training player for the trip, she was added to the squad for the competition following an injury to Lucy Bronze.
Alessia made her senior international debut on 11 March 2020 in the final game of the tournament, appearing as a 76th minute substitute for Toni Duggan in a 1–0 defeat to Spain
On 30 November 2021, she scored her first international goals, a hat-trick in a national record 20–0 victory over Latvia during 2023 World Cup qualifying. Timed at 11 minutes, the hat-trick was the fastest by any England player in history.
A student at St Simon Stock from 2010 to 2017, Alessia had a spell in the United States where she played for the North Carolina Tar Heels from 2017 while studying at the college. She has been a regular for England throughout the junior ranks, right back to the U-15 team.
She was part of the Young Lionesses squad who brought home bronze medals from the 2018 FIFA U-20 Womens Word Cup, having also previously played at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Jordan in 2016.
