Latest news from a busy Churchtown

January 2023 heralded a new term in De La Salle College Churchtown, our students and staff returned after the Christmas break refreshed and ready for a busy term.

In January we held our Entrance Assessments for incoming 1st Years. We were delighted to welcome boys and girls to the school to complete aptitude testing in preparation for 1st year in August 2023.

Preparations for our change of status to a Coeducational school continue. We are delighted with the number of girls that have enrolled for August 2023. Currently we are working with the Department of Education to prepare our building for this change. We will have new toilets and perhaps some additional classrooms to allow for new subjects. All very exciting!

Our 3rd years and 6th years completed their Mock Examinations in February, both groups are working hard to prepare for their respective State Examinations in June.

Our RE team has prepared regular Lenten Reflections that are delivered by our students throughout this period of Lent. A number of our students had very successful entries into the National Lasallian Competition, evidence that our Lasallian Ethos is alive and thriving in Churchtown, well done boys!

Our Well Read Team is a very active presence in the school and works to promote a love of reading amongst our students and the wider Community. Hopefully the people of Churchtown have noticed the Community Library just outside our main gate. Please feel free to take a book or give a book.

Sport of course is a vital part of our school and an important for our students wellbeing. All of our teams have had successful seasons in Rugby, Football, Badminton, Basketball and Table Tennis. We look forward to the Summer Term where we introduce a different variety of sports, with the focus on being active and participating.

Seachtain na Gaeilge was a fun and engaging week for staff and students alike.  Thanks to our Irish Department for organising a range of activities throughout the week. We had Scannáin, CLUICHE PEILE- Bliain 5 V Bliain 6, Tráth na gCeist, Comórtas Poc Fada, Lá Glas, Lá Gaeilge, Ceist an Lae, Rince Gaelach all of which are designed to encourage our students to engage in the Irish Language and Irish Culture.

This year marks 70 years since De La Salle College opened its doors to the Churchtown Community. We are delighted that our school is going from strength to strength and look forward to remaining at the heart of the Churchtown Community in the years ahead.
