Lasallian School Leaders Conference, Malta
The Lasallian School Leaders Conference, Malta, took place in a hybrid format on Thursday December 9th, with Headteachers meeting at the La Salle Pastoral Centre, Mellieha. They were joined via Zoom by the Office of Mission and Br Ben Hanlon (Provincial).
Presentations were not only very informative but also formed the basis for discussion, out of which came some very useful suggestions that will help sustain the Mission in both Malta and the wider District.
Following the opening prayer led by Jo Millea (Director of Formation and Vocation Ministry), Br. Ben Hanlon referred to the excellent reputation of the Lasallian schools in Malta within the District and globally, while saluting the contribution made by school leaders.
He stated that the new system under Director of Educational Mission for La Salle, Malta, Stephen Cachia, where both Colleges were working very closely together, was a huge benefit to everyone. He encouraged all to continue to dream and reach new heights in all they do. Br Ben also spoke about how Heads could contribute to the region through ASSEDIL (European Association of Lasallian Heads/Principals).
Joseph Gilson outlined plans for the ‘Lasallian Ethos Evaluation and Strategy Webinars’ which will allow schools to reflect on why ethos is important, assess strengths and opportunities, and chart out next steps of development and growth in this critical area of school life. Joe linked this initiative with broader calls and similar projects that are taking place throughout the Lasallian world.
The Conference also introduced the ideas behind initiatives such as the Lasallian Student Journey: a pilot project that will allow schools to share resources and establish stronger connections through a common platform across the network.
Eunan Whyte (Communications Officer) spoke about the importance of creating a sense of community through developing the District publications and website. News from schools was crucial in creating this bond.
Mariella Vella also addressed the Conference as she detailed the many activities taking place in Malta in relation to Formation and Animation.
Br. Ben concluded the conference by thanking all who participated and organised the event, while wishing all a very happy Christmas.
This was the last of the three national Conferences that were organised over the space of four weeks in November and December 2021. The Office of Mission and the District Leadership would like to once again thank all Principals, Heads and Directors of Pastoral Centres in the District that were able to participate in any of these three events.
