Br. Ben extends his sympathy on passing of Queen Elizabeth

Brother Visitor Ben Hanlon has written to our schools in Great Britain to express his sympathy on the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

In his letter, Br Ben acknowledged the great sadness that many in our Lasallian Family are feeling at the moment and highlighted the many great qualities that made Queen Elizabeth such a popular figure around the globe.

Br Ben also called on members of the Lasallian Family in Ireland and Malta to remember in their prayers, their colleagues who are currently in mourning.

The text of the letter is as follows:

On behalf of all Lasallians in our District of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta, I wish to extend to you

our deepest sympathy on the death of Queen Elizabeth. Br Joel Palud, our Regional Councillor in

Rome, has also asked me to convey his condolences and the ‘deep appreciation of all Europeans to

Queen Elizabeth for her unique contribution to peace, goodwill and prosperity in the world.’

This is a time of great sadness as we mourn the passing of a truly great woman. She was Head of

State but also loved by all. She was a family woman devoted, throughout her long life, to her

husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a woman of deep faith. Queen

Elizabeth was the genuine role model, exhorting us to take the higher road, to do the right thing

by being good neighbours, thinking of others, showing good example and being generous in our

community service.

But the late Queen also lived these values to an extraordinary degree: her

dignity, good humour, constancy, and positive attitude in the face of adversity, her calm

demeanour, resilience and enormous capacity for hard work, are just some of the hallmarks of a

life lived fully in the service of others. She has left a very rich legacy and while there is sadness

there is also much to celebrate and for which to be grateful.

May she rest in peace
