Waterford students celebrate significant achievements

Students at De La Salle College Waterford continue to live the Lasallian values as they have made an impact in the classroom, on the football field and in the community.

Gaisce Award

Congratulations to Noah Cowman (class of 2022) who recently received his Gaisce - The President's Award Gold medal from President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. Noah completed the various challenges (52 weeks of community involvement, personal skill and physical recreation) during his Leaving Certificate year in De La Salle College, along with a residential course and the adventure journey. Noah previously received a Bronze medal in 4th Year and a Gaisce Silver medal in 5th Year. Well done Noah on your fantastic achievement.

Football success

Well done to 6th Year student Romeo Akachukwu who has enjoyed a tremendous year with both Waterford FC and Ireland. Having played for his country in the Under 17 European Championships in May, Romeo has progresses to the Under-19 national squad in addition to carving a place in the Waterford FC first team. He recently scored a match-winning 30-minute hattrick to see the Blues beat Athlone Town 3-1 and into the First Division Play-off Final. All this while still maintaining his fantastic attitude towards education!

DEAR Challenge

All 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year students took part in De La Salle’s DEAR Challenge on Monday morning to promote literacy and bring back the joy of reading. It was a challenge in itself to get over 25 classes to drop everything and read at the same time, but it was a great success! Organised by Ms A. Phelan, it is one of many initiatives that the Library Team are running this year.
