Teachers learning from European collaboration

Teachers from De La Salle College Senior School used the summer to good effect as they took the opportunity to learn new skills and approaches through collaboration with colleagues from across Europe.

Barcelona

An exciting and enriching week Erasmus course, "Microsoft for Education: Powerful Tools to Create, Share and Inspire," set in the vibrant and cultural rich city of Barcelona, Spain, took place from July 22nd to 27th.

Two educators from De La Salle, Senior School, Ms. Rose Micallef and Ms. Roberta Xuereb connected with a network of like-minded educators from various EU countries. Throughout the week, they benefitted from the knowledge and experience of their trainer, who helped them maximise the impact of technology in their teaching.

A cultural visit to Barcelona's CosmoCaixa Science Museum set the stage for lessons using Microsoft apps, enabling the production of creative and interactive class presentations through the integration of Microsoft’s educational apps.

 Ljubljana

From the 29th of July to the 3rd of August 2024, De La Salle College teachers Maria Paola Cocker, Diane Sammut, and Roxanne Zammit participated in an enriching Erasmus+ mobility programme in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The programme focused on advancing modern education through the lens of the 6Cs (Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Character, and Citizenship). The participants achieved significant learning outcomes, including understanding the pivotal role of the 6Cs in contemporary teaching, exploring AI tools that enhance educational experiences, developing AI-integrated lesson plans, recognising ethical considerations surrounding AI in education, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and digitally-enhanced learning environment.

This experience not only broadened their pedagogical perspectives but also equipped them with innovative strategies to implement in their classrooms.

Amsterdam

Between the 19th and 23rd August Ms. Liz Spiteri Cornish, a physics teacher at De la Salle secondary school, had the incredible opportunity to participate in the "Brain-Based Learning: Understand How Students Really Learn" course in Amsterdam in The Netherlands, diving into the fascinating world of neuroscience and its application in education.

The course focused on how the brain processes information and provided practical strategies for creating more engaging and effective learning environments. It covered key concepts like neuroplasticity, the role of emotions in learning, and the benefits of multisensory and mindfulness techniques.

ERASMUS update

On Wednesday September 25th, all our senior school educators assisted to the dissemination of three ERASMUS courses which took place during the summer months. Our session on ‘Brain Based Learning: Understand How Students Really Learn’ provided key insights into understanding learning processes and strategies that can transform classrooms.

Artificial intelligence is shaping the future of every single sector including that of education. During the session ‘AI and the 6Cs for Future Ready Teaching’ teachers gained a better insight of tools to prepare students for a tech-driven world.

"Teachers got hands-on with Microsoft’s powerful educational tools during the session ‘Microsoft for Education: Powerful Tools to Create, Share and Inspire’. During this session teachers shared how to create, collaborate, and inspire students using the latest tech.

Special thanks to our teachers Ms. Diane Sammut, Ms. Maria Paola Cocker, Ms. Roxanne Zammit, Ms. Roberta Xuereb, Ms. Rose Micallef and Ms. Liz Spiteri Cornish for their excellent dissemination.
