Tea party illustrates importance of DLS to Churchtown community

Oodles of fine bone china, linen napkins, candlesticks, lamps and a desire to further involve our community in our school; what can we do to combine all these? The answer; have a vintage afternoon tea party for De La Salle College Churchtown’s local residents.

We spread the word at the Pastoral meeting and in the local schools, shops, businesses, men’s shed, bridge club and choir.

So on May 10 our amazing Fifth Year prefects and Ross, Zagros and Hayden from Second Year donned their glad rags and began their careers as waiters and concierge staff. They did the most amazing job of welcoming a diverse range of our local residents; it is not only the ladies that enjoy drinking from a china cup….our local men’s shed also had a lovely time chatting, interacting with students and enjoying the food.

Our assembly hall was decked out with linen tablecloths, a selection of our finest china, candles and lamps aglow in preparation for the arrival of our guests.

Feedback from locals who attended indicated that while the food was delicious it was the chatting and banter with the students which was the real highlight of the tea party. Our students made us proud. Not an attendee had to move from his/her seat as our lads filled and refilled tea and coffee pots and replenished the vintage plates with sandwiches, scones and other sweet treats. How lovely to celebrate 70 years of De La Salle in the community by “breaking bread” with our residents.

A big shout out to all the members of the Tea Party Committee who put in so much time and effort and dug out all the family heirlooms so they could be enjoyed by our community. Thank you to Sharon, Nataliya, Maria, Tom Leigh and our invaluable helper on the day, Sharon Tully.

Big thank you to all our local businesses who supported us including: The Glenside Pub, Supervalu Churchtown,  Howard’s Way, Quigleys Cafe Nutgrove, Stephen in Nutgrove Shopping Centre, Dunnes Stores,  Nicholls Nutgrove and Lidl Rathfarnham. Thank you to Mick Dempsey from Oasis Flowers Terenure who made our tables look so pretty.

Without the support of all our sponsors the event would not have been possible.

Look out for next year….a spot of afternoon dancing perhaps!
