St. Seton’s marks official opening with celebration Mass
St Seton’s Secondary School marked its official opening with a very fitting ceremony on Friday September 22nd.
The new school in Ballyfermot, which comprises an amalgamation of St John’s De La Salle College, St Dominic’s College and Caritas College, aims to continue to prove quality education to the local community by building on the wonderful work carried out by the three congregations.
Friday was an opportunity to reflect on many years of preparatory work and a mammoth collective effort from all of the schools and local community, while also looking ahead to the exciting journey that lies ahead for all at St Seton’s.
A special celebration Mass was held in the local Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ballyfermot and it was fitting that it was the first occasion where the whole school community gathered in the same building.
The sense of gratitude for all that has gone before was matched by the feeling of pride and optimism for what lies ahead for students, staff and the community in general.
Those sentiments were captured perfectly by Principal, Sarah Green, in her reflection at the end of a Mass that had contributions from students and staff, and was attended by members of the three congregations.
Representing the De La Salle Brothers at the Mass were Brother Visitor Ben Hanlon; Auxiliary Visitor Tommy Walsh, Br. Raymond McKeever, Br. Larry Cahill, Director of Formation Pat Walsh, and communications officer Eunan Whyte.
A reception was held afterwards in the Junior Campus (St John’s College).
St Seton’s is under the joint trusteeship of the Le Chéile Schools Trust and CEIST (Catholic Education An Irish Schools Trust), this inclusive co-educational Catholic Secondary School, will provide the best of the combined ethos, founding traditions and charism of the Dominican Sisters, the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul and the De La Salle Brothers, as reflected in the three constituent schools.
