St Peter’s video call with Reaching the Unreached

Br. James Kimpton was a teacher at St Peter’s School, Bournemouth who founded the charity Reaching the Unreached in Tamil Nadu, India. He took the name Brother Lionel and now a small group of our students are working on a display about the charity and its work.

On May 6th 2021 they spoke to Father Antony at RTU in India using a video call, linking St Peter’s in the UK with RTU’s ‘St Peter’s School’ over 8,000km away. They discussed the worsening COVID problem and how RTU gave out food parcels during the last lockdown, as when people cannot work they cannot earn money to buy food. There are many concerns that, should restrictions tighten, the community around RTU will suffer greatly. Most students at RTU have been sent home, but about 120 remain.

Father Antony maintains a video diary to publicise their experiences – please see https://www.rtu.org.uk/covid-19-update and he has now had his two vaccine shots. Concern remains however that some don’t trust the vaccine and one of the tasks at hand is to convince people the vaccine is safe.

Please see www.rtu.org.uk for further info on the charity we support as a school and a satellite view of the school is here – www.tinyurl.com/rtu2021 . There are a few nice panorama pictures to view too (Google Sphere) such as this one – www.tinyurl.com/rtu-photo
