St Margaret Ward celebrates Cultural Day

Staff and students at St Margaret Ward celebrated their diverse and inclusive community on the 12th July. Members of the school community were invited to wear clothing representing their cultural background and it was amazing to see the school awash with colour and vibrancy, as well as to continue to raise money for our new school Chapel appeal.

The day was organised by members of the newly inaugurated 1719 Society, who created a series of presentations and activities to share information about the day throughout the week. Together, we celebrated the different cultures represented in our school, including the Philippines, Pakistan, India, Poland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, lots of different African countries, as well as British culture on show.

It was really amazing to see the day embraced by so many of our students and there was a real positive buzz around the school with our Lasallian values of Inclusivity and Respect truly on show. The day provoked conversations between staff and students, and among students themselves as well, about their clothing, families, cultural background, traditions and history showing the power of listening and education to bring us together. Next year we hope to make the event an event bigger and better showcase of our unique community.
