Rosie’s kind gesture highlights Lasallian values
The kind-hearted efforts of one student at De La Salle School St Helens has been acknowledged by the charity that received a very generous donation and support.
Rosie McCully has illustrated just how we can live the Lasallian values and reach out to those who need us with a very commendable act of kindness.
Her actions prompted Bev Neilson from Willowbrook Hospice in St Helens, to contact the school and express their appreciation.
I wanted to get in touch regarding one of your students at De La Salle - Rosie McCully. Rosie has been selling handmade bracelets and raised £366 for Willowbrook Hospice. This is an absolutely amazing achievement and one that Rosie chose to do off his own back. I think you’ll agree this makes it a very selfless act.
Rosie also did this in memory of a young person’s mum who was a patient at Willowbrook. Rosie has become a very good friend to the patient’s seven-year-old daughter as they are neighbours. Rosie has supported her through her bereavement. Rosie even attended our Light Up a Life event, where the patient’s daughter was turning the lights on, to support her.
We rely on fundraisers in our community like Rosie to be able to provide our specialist support and end of life care for our patients and their families in St Helens and Knowsley. As a hospice this costs us over £5 million pounds a year and we only receive a third of this from the NHS, so fundraising is crucial to us.
