Mixed emotions during busy spell at Stella Maris Junior School

It was a time of mixed emotions for all at Stella Maris Junior School as students and staff said goodbye to the retiring Ms Pauline Farewell, but they also enjoyed some wonderful activities including a blessing of pets ceremony and a visit from police horses.

European School Sports Day 2023 at Stella Maris Junior School

“What if every child could #BeActive in school with sport and play? What if every school took one day to celebrate sport in Europe? Could it help students to kick-off a lifetime of health?” The answer is yes.

The ESSD slogan is “Together, let’s get schools on the move and inspire a lifetime of health among European youth.”

On Friday 30th September our Junior School joined another 3 million students to #BeActive in 44 countries. Various activities were organised to promote Physical Activity, hence the motto #BeActive. All students walked for 10minutes, followed a fitness/dance workshop led by Ms. Kim Spiteri and her dance students and experienced various Fundamental skills obstacle courses supervised by Mr. Joseph Tanti and his coaches from #beactivesportmalta SportMalta. #maltabeactive

Mounted Police Section visited Stella Maris during Animal Awareness Week

Our Grade 5 students had the opportunity to meet the Mounted Police Section together with two of their horses. The students were engaged throughout and had the opportunity to understand how these horses are trained and why they are used by the Malta Police Force.

This is one of the activities the Junior school section prepared for Animal Awareness Week whilst also celebrating the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

Blessing of the Pets

On 5 October, It was an exciting day for the Grade 3 and 4 students. Their parents were invited to get their pet to school for the Blessing of the Pets ceremony. Fr Anthony Fitzpatrick, Junior School chaplain blessed their pets and a number of students read prayers.

Animal Awareness Assembly and Cat Food Collection

During Animal Awareness week, students collected cat food to donate to Mrs Rita Giordano from Love for Stray Animals Malta Foundation.  After assembly presented by Grade 5 Arnold, we presented to collection to Ms Rita. She thanked our Lasallian families for their generosity.

Peace Assembly

Grade 5 Benjamin presented an assembly to the whole school community about Peace.  They passed on a message how each one of us can do small things to be a change in the world we are living, starting from the classroom, the yard and at home.  They ended the assembly by singing the song: We are the Children.

Ms Pauline’s Farewell Assembly

On Monday 23 October, we bid farewell to Ms Pauline Scerri - Assistant Head Junior School. Students read a Goodbye Poem, took part in three original sketches - Il-Grand Bazaar, Il-Klinika ta' Ms Pauline, Bajda Silġ. Grade 3 Arnold and Grade 4 Miguel sung two beautiful songs.

A photo collage reminded her of all the work done in her 21 years of service at the College. Video Messages from past colleagues and past students took her by surprise. Francesco Tanti played some Italian tunes on the piano, while Trio Cutajar wrote her an original song. A Farewell speech by Head of School Mr Abela followed.

The students presented her with a gift and a hand painted card by Jack Pirotta including a personal message from each student. The Director, Mr Cachia presented her with a memorial plaque in the name of the Brothers and La Salle Malta. Staff from Stella Maris and St Benild presented her plants as a token. Mr Samuel Casha painted a caricature in watercolour. Housekeeping staff presented her a gift to thank her for her service. A truly memorable morning.
