Auxiliary Visitor, Br. Tommy Walsh

Br. Tommy Walsh has revealed that he is humbled and honoured to accept the position of Auxiliary Visitor of the District of Ireland, Great Britain & Malta.

Based in the De La Salle College Waterford Community, Br. Tommy was officially appointed by Br Armin, Superior General. He will now work alongside Brother Visitor, Ben Hanlon, and Auxiliary Visitor, Michael Curran, and is very much looking forward to supporting all the work that is ongoing in the District.

“I am really looking forward to this new role and doing what I can to sustain the Mission. I am humbled and honoured to be asked to take on this position and it is my aim to support the Mission team and to help anyone who needs assistance”, he explained.

Br Tommy was born in the Cordal, Castleisland in Co Kerry on October 6th, 1963, and attended the local Kilmurry Primary School. From 1976 to 79 he attended the De La Salle Juniorate in Castletown, before completing his Leaving Certificate in De La Salle College Waterford, while based at Faithlegg House.

Tommy then joined the Brothers in 1981 and completed his Arts Degree in Maynooth University.

After qualifying, he spent his teaching career at De La Salle College Waterford, but also spent five years in Nigeria and a further five and a half years in India.

Aside from his teaching duties, Tommy is heavily involved in sport in the school, particularly the basketball teams where he has helped the school to considerable success over the years. For the past 22 years he had been a driving force behind the Lasallian Developing World Programme.

In announcing the appointment, Br Ben, offered his congratulations and thanks to Br Tommy, and looked forward working with him on the Leadership team.

“This is wonderful news and I know you will all join with me in congratulating Tommy on his appointment and also in thanking him for his generosity in making himself available for this important role.

“Br Michael, the various District Teams and myself, look forward to working with Tommy in serving all members of the Lasallian family in our District. We ask you to pray for us and especially for Br Tommy as he embarks on his new ministry”, added Br. Ben.
