Melvin takes over as manager of Retreat Centre, Mellieha

The New Year brought a fresh start for the Lasallian Mission in Malta as Melvin Mifsud took on the role as manager of the La Salle Retreat Centre in Mellieħa on January 1st.

He suceeds Sammy Borg who, along with his wife Yvonne, retired after 11 very successful years in the position.

The centre is a hugely popular destination for retreats throughout Malta and beyond and is a vital part of the Lasallian Mission in the District of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta, and while it may represent a new challenge for Melvin, he is certainly no stranger to the Lasallian Family, having worked in De La Salle College for many years.

“I started my journey in the Lasallian Educational Mission when I was employed as a Design and Technology Lab Technician back in 2010 at De La Salle College in Malta.  Getting to know the story of the Founder, I was drawn to his charisma and willingly I joined the Lasallian Animation Team.  I helped in the organisation of retreats for the senior school students which were held at the La Salle Pastoral Centre in Mellieħa.

“When I was offered, by La Salle Malta, to manage the Pastoral Centre I was humbled to be entrusted with this role and delighted to be back at the Pastoral Centre”, explained Melvin who paid tribute to the great work done by his predecessors.

“Words are not enough to express my gratitude to Sammy and Yvonne for their hard work and unwavering dedication in serving the people at the Pastoral Centre.  I am thankful to Sammy, Yvonne, and the staff at the Pastoral Centre for welcoming me and guiding me during this period of transition.

“With the intercession of St John Baptist de la Salle, I pray God to guide me in this new role so at the best of my abilities, I continue to be of service to the Lasallian family and to all those persons who come to the Pastoral Centre”, he added.

The Centre has become a venue for many meetings, seminars, retreats and live-ins. The multi-purpose hall equipped with audio-visual equipment seats over 80 people. There is also a Conference Room, Boardrooms, Prayer Room, and a large garden for moments of quiet reading and meditation. Most of the 22 bedrooms are ensuite, with windows overlooking the beautiful bay of Mellieħa.
