Many occasions to celebrate at St Benild

Students at St Benild School have had many occasions to celebrate in recent weeks including, walking with the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, World Down Syndrome Day and International Women’s Day.

Traditional Procession with the Statue of Our Lady of Sorrows

On Friday, 24th March, gathered together in prayer and song, all the community at St. Benild School, walked behind the statue of our Lady of Sorrows,  in the streets around the school.

This statue had been produced back in 2018 by a team of dedicated teachers, assisted by students from the Stella Maris Senior School Section. Carried by a number of older students, the statue was taken into the nearby Parish Church. Marian prayers, as well as a reflection on the life of Mary our Mother, gave meaning to this activity.

World Down Syndrome Day: We Rocked our Socks

On the eve of Tuesday, 21st March - our community at St. Benild School has joined the wave of awareness about Down Syndrome by wearing mismatched socks.  Parents also generously sent in donations which were passed on to Opening Doors and Down Syndrome Association Malta. It is important to teach our children from a young age to embrace differences and learn that each person is unique and special in his/her own way.  The presence of Ms Angela Bettoni, a young writer, advocate and performer with Down Syndrome gave even more meaning to our special assembly.

Wonder Women's Day at St. Benild School

Celebrating International Women's Day is a must at St. Benild School. The 8th of March started off with a special assembly during which the boys were challenged to think about their stereotypical ideas of how they would draw people in particular professions which tend to be associated with one gender rather than another. After the drawing challenge, much to their surprise, the pupils had the chance to meet and interview a female bus driver, soldier and referee. Our aim was for our pupils to be aware that women, like men, are able to work in various sectors.

Playtime with a difference for all our little Lasallians on Women's Day!

Short football matches were held with young female footballers from the Malta Women Football Association. The boys had a blast and could witness that girls can be good football players. What a joy for female referees and coaches to coordinate such matches.
