Junior school take part in eTwinning Project

Covid-19 brought many challenges, but in other ways it spurred everyone at De La Salle Junior School in Malta to try even harder to break down the walls of isolation that face masks and social distancing imposed upon us. This school year, thanks to Mr Joseph Degabriele on behalf of the Secretariat for Catholic Education, Year 4 students from De La Salle College Primary school and Zejtun Primary school B met online and shared an eTwinning project entitled: Everyday Superheroes.

In this way new friends were made, ideas were shared, and even a practical element was introduced to help the students experience the adage that ‘actions speak louder than words’. So, after doing research and discussing such worthy role models as Carlo Acutis and Mother Theresa, the students were invited to donate items of food and other household items to give to Dar Nazareth.

An unexpectedly wonderful outcome of this activity was a visit by HE Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca President Emeritus of Malta on Friday May 28th to De La Salle College and on Tuesday June 1st to Zejtun Primary B. The students were elated and honoured that their efforts were acknowledged by Ms Coleiro Preca who congratulated them on reaching out to others and embracing a vision of one world and one people.

Isaac Cachia reflects on the experience from a student’s perspective:

During this scholastic year, the Year 4 students of De La Salle College and Żejtun Primary School teamed up together and learned about different Saints and everyday superheroes.

During the online sessions, we took turns, each class telling the other school what the Saints or everyday superheroes did. Our class did a presentation on our founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle.  I was so proud to explain all about him!

I liked this eTwinning project because it was between Year 4 classes from two different schools. We met other children, we made new friends from the other school, and we all had fun presenting all the work we did together as a class.  I can’t wait for next year!

LIVE JESUS IN OUR HEARTS, FOREVER!
