Induction programme points to a very bright future

The New Staff Orientation programme held in Castletown provided another welcome reminder that the future of the Lasallian Mission within our District is very much in safe hands.

A combination of engaging content and the passion of participants helped produce an enlightening gathering on Thursday February 8th and Friday 9th.

Led by Director of Formation, Pat Walsh, the programme introduced new teachers to the story and values of St John Baptist de La Salle, and reflected on how they can pass on that Mission to their students.

Following on from the success of the first induction programme in October, ten new teachers attended  and were welcomed by Pat Walsh to the very comfortable surroundings in Castletown.

After Pat’s introduction, Auxiliary Visitor, Br. Tommy Walsh, spoke about Lasallian Saint, St Miguel Febres Cordero, whose Feast Day occurred the following day (February 9th). Communications Officer, Eunan Whyte, then provided an outline of our Founder’s Story and reflected on how that journey and values are relevant in today’s classroom.

As always, the social time on Thursday evening allowed the participants to relax, get better acquainted and share their experiences.

Friday morning began with a prayer from Derek Doherty, Director of La Salle Retreat Centre Castletown, who provided an outline of the great work being carried out in the centre and the programmes on offer.

Pat Walsh then provided a very informative introduction to the Five Core Principles of a Lasallian School, before Br. Tommy highlighted how those values are put into action through the work of the Lasallian missions in Africa and India.

The course concluded with a review of safeguarding best practices and an update on upcoming District programmes.

Thanks to all to attended and provided such a positive experience, and for the wonderful hospitality from all in Castletown.
