Helping less fortunate in St Helens

The 1719 Society at St De La Salle School, St Helens, has been very busy this term. Each of our strands have led a series of activities and the focus for us this term has been has been on community and Hope.  We meet every week to discuss or progress further and open our meeting with a prayer and thought for the week.

Our extra-curricular strand ran a Giant Jenga competition which was really popular with our lower school.  Campion House won and we are hoping to run another competition in the New Year.

As a communication strand we have introduced a weekly broadcast which goes out to form teachers.  This is played to the students and keep them updated about What’s on and what they can get involved in. The broadcast aims to inform students on upcoming news and events and is a chance to share student achievements.

We have also been helping the Chaplaincy Team to raise awareness for a local Charity called Teardrops. We have encouraged the community to come together to bring in food and necessary items for local charities to help the less fortunate this Christmas.

Some members of the 1719 society and prefects helped to organise the food and wrap the overwhelming amount of gifts that had been kindly donated. This has been running alongside our ‘Coats for Christmas’ scheme, which aims to get warm clothing and coats for those who need it most. Both appeals were a huge success and will make a massive difference this Christmas.
