Founder’s Day celebrations at St Margaret Ward
St Margaret Ward staff and students enjoyed a wonderful day of celebrations for Founder’s Day on May 10th.
We started the day together with a virtual liturgy created by our Lasallian Ambassadors who shared the life of St John-Baptiste de La Salle and invited us to reflect on how we can follow in his footsteps. We were then invited to consider what we are thankful for and to write postcards to members of our school community and beyond to share positivity across the community. At the end of the day our staff gathered for a social with scones, it was lovely to see the staff gathered together to celebrate Founder’s Day together.
This year we had record numbers of students involved in the Lasallian Awards programme with nearly 600 students achieving an award at the different levels including a number of Gold and Platinum awards. The students who achieved Silver and above were invited to a special service provided by the Lasallian District of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta, and two of our students won the District prizes.
Following this, our Lasallian Ambassadors are really keen to take the message of the Founder to our Collegiate Primary schools so they can begin to learn more about his life and work and be inspired.
Good Shepherd Mass 2024
Each year staff and students from across the North Staffordshire Deanery, including St Margaret Ward, gather to celebrate our combined fundraising efforts for the Good Shepherd appeal for Father Hudson’s care. Father Hudson’s provide a range of services to people across the Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham, an area encompassing Oxford, Stoke-on-Trent, Coventry, Warwick, Worcester, and Wolverhampton. They work with people from all walks of life, offering friendship, care, and support. Throughout Lent our students have done various activities to fundraise for Father Hudson’s and the Good Shepherd Mass was a wonderful way to celebrate the good work done.
Students compete for Best Speech
On Friday 17th May, a group of Year 8 students at St Margaret Ward gathered in the Library to compete for the title of 'Best Speech' in the year group.
As part of our 'Rhetoric' scheme of work, all Year 8 students were given the task of planning, writing and presenting their own speeches based on a 'topic of importance' chosen by themselves. These students were nominated by their teachers as standout orators in their individual classes. They very bravely agreed to deliver their speeches again, with some of their friends accompanying them to cheer them on.
It was very difficult to judge the competition, but after much deliberation our winners were:
1st Place: Aiza Shaheen (8-5)
2nd Place: Gold Omotosho (8-7)
3rd Place: Prajith Navaneethan (8-4)
