Exciting new initiative at St Gerald’s College

St Gerald’s College in Castlebar launched a very exciting initiative in the school with the opening of their new Sensory Room, while students have been very busy of late with activities including, a trip to Dublin Zoo, completing a First Aid course, fundraising for Ukraine, and enjoyed many events to mark History Week.

Opening of our Sensory Room

In 2007, The United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared April 2nd as World Autism Awareness Day, to highlight the need to help improve the quality of life of those with Autism so that they can lead full and meaningful lives as an integral part of society.

This year, the theme of Autism Awareness Day is ‘Inclusive Quality Education for All'.

In celebration of this, St. Gerald’s College have opened our new Sensory Room. We hope that this therapeutic space will provide our ASD students with a safe, quiet, calming space where they can relax when in school.

History Week

History Week is in full swing in St. Gerald’s College! The Drama Club hosted a Murder Mystery game for our first years. Team work, clues and some serious fun was had! Our second years enjoyed a trip to the famous Ceide Fields and the Michael Davitt Museum and our 3rd years came out victorious in our inaugural History Quiz against our neighbouring St. Joseph's Secondary School. The Senior History classes are busy preparing a Time Capsule to be opened in 2072.

Transition Year

Our T.Y's have been busy this month helping a local charity send aid to Ukraine, visiting Dublin Zoo and completing a First Aid Course.
