District schools represented at ASSEDIL conference in Rome

Casa La Salle in Rome hosted the 10th Formation Course for Directors at RELEM between October 2nd and 7th. During the five-day programme, over 40 participants coming from all over the Lasallian Region of Europe and the Mediterranean (RELEM) experienced an intensive programme of formation aimed at strengthening our Lasallian DNA. Amongst these participants, representing our District were Claudia Vella from Malta, Michael Walsh and Eileen Doolan from Ireland and our new Auxiliary Visitor for the District of Ireland, Great Britain & Malta, Bro Tommy Walsh f.s.c.

This programme was made up of both thought-provoking presentations by various entities, as well as many fruitful workshops.

All Lasallian leaders were invited to more deeply identify the common elements that define the spirit of the Lasallian mission and its Christian vision of culture. Through the several workshops, we were provided a golden opportunity to encourage local, regional and international conversation around questions such as:

  • Who am I as a Lasallian Leader and how do I promote social justice?

  • What value does the Lasallian charism add to society through its unique approach to Catholic education?

  • What values characterise the Lasallian Mission?

We also had the unique opportunity of meeting Brothers residing at Casa La Salle, as well as our new Brother Superior,  Br. Armin Luistro f.s.c., who was elected by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools during its 46th General Chapter,  last May.

All the themes discussed were intended to help Lasallians gain insights and develop integrated responses to extend and deepen the relevance of the Lasallian mission.

We would like to thank District and the Brothers for financially supporting our participation in such an enriching growth opportunity. Moreover, heartfelt thanks to all the ASSEDIL Council for their impeccable organisation which certainly has reaped its fruit in us participants.
