District represented at Formation Course for Directors of RELEM

The 11th Formation Course for Directors of RELEM, a gathering of dedicated minds and passionate educators, took place from October 8th to 13th. Representing the IGBM District, Ms. Doriana Delia Parnis and Ms. Wendy Sultana participated in this enlightening event, where the pursuit of educational excellence and the deepening of the Lasallian mission were at the forefront.

The course commenced with warm greetings from Br. General Superior, Br. Armin Luistro, setting a tone of unity and purpose. Each district, like pieces of a larger puzzle, had the opportunity to present their ongoing work, underscoring the remarkable diversity of initiatives and programmes being carried out throughout the region.

A highlight of the course was Br. Paco Chiva's profound insights into Lasallian Identity, encapsulated by the pillars of Faith, Service, and Community. The spirited discussions culminated in a shared vision of the Lasallian journey, one that emphasises collaboration and mission over hierarchy, fostering a deeper sense of Lasallian Association.

The course also featured an in-depth exploration of the Updated Lasallian Pedagogy: New Learning Context (NCA), a pedagogical and pastoral framework with its own unique identity. It provides a holistic approach to education, addressing the emotional, cognitive, physical, social, and spiritual development of each student at different stages of their learning journey. This empowers students to become active protagonists in their own education.

Mr. Geert Mortier's presentation on Lasallian leadership was equally illuminating. It encouraged directors to master the art of delegation, maintain a healthy work-life balance, and make strategic choices in their professional and personal lives. His emphasis on setting priorities and utilising time effectively, as represented by the Eisenhower matrix, offered valuable insights for all participants.

Pastoral activity in Lasallian schools was explored in depth by Mr. Jean Chapuis. He shared the Justice Education Course, a transformative resource aimed at inspiring young minds to think, act, and contribute to a more just world. Meanwhile, Br. Enrico Muller highlighted the solidarity projects in Scampia, illustrating the profound impact of education in fostering social good.

Ms. Laura Ballerini and the Solidarietà Team showcased the remarkable work undertaken by Solidarietà, further underlining the powerful role of education in shaping a better future.

Throughout the course, attendees actively engaged in group discussions, self-reflection, and personal evaluation, creating a dynamic learning environment that encouraged growth and collaboration.

The 11th Formation Course for Directors of RELEM was not merely a gathering of educators but a testament to the unwavering commitment of Lasallian educators to provide a meaningful, comprehensive, and transformative education. It reaffirmed the power of unity, leadership, and innovation in shaping a brighter future for the communities they serve.

In the spirit of the Lasallian mission, these passionate educators are now better equipped to guide and inspire the students who depend on them to light the way forward.

If Heads or Assistant Heads were interested in the ASSEDIL (Association of Heads and Principals of Lasallian Schools in Europe and the Mediterranean) Formation Programme for October 2024, or the upcoming ASSEDIL Congress in Turkey in April 17-20, to contact Nicholai Mifsud, District Representative on the ASSEDIL Council.
