Culture of Vocations Week in Malta

For the third consecutive our District has organised a Culture of Vocations week within our schools and the wider Lasallian Community in Malta. During the week, a variety of activities were organised for students , educators and lay partners with the aim of reflecting and sharing on the different manner in which our Lasallian vocation is experienced and lived by the different partners contributing to the Lasallian mission. The activities included:

-          A Called and Chosen live-in retreat for young persons;

-          A number of class sessions with students in all our Lasallian Schools within De La Salle College and Stella Maris College;

-          Visits and participation in activities linked to Holy Week organised by the schools;

-          Staff development sessions with staff members in both colleges;

-          A Day of reflection for all staff members and lay partners at the La Salle Pastoral centre in Mellieha.

The activities were led and animated by Brother Chris Patino, Brother Tommy Walsh, Brother Jesu Raj together with Joe Gilson and Mourad Barsoum. Brother Austin, Brother Mario, Brother Saviour and Brother Edward from the Brothers’ communities in Malta also participated actively in all events.

Day of Reflection

The Day of Reflection on the final day of the week  was a truly inspirational moment to help all Lasallians present to reflect on the seminal document issued by the Institute and known as “The Leavening Project”. With its challenge to Lasallians to rediscover our call to serve those on the peripheries and to work towards an ecological conversion, the Leavening document was an important cornerstone of the day. Brother Chris, Brother Tommy and Brother Jesu built on the words of the document to inspire all those present to reflect on their personal commitment as well as the commitment of the mission in Malta. It was a truly inspiring day of challenging spiritual reflection for all those present.

Thank you all for the wonderful week of Culture of Vocations spent last week in Malta it certainly was uplifting and really a spiritual renewal period.

Thank you all for the invite, the fantastic experience and to meet so many deeply committed Lasallians in Malta. I shall never forget it. The meetings with the students from both school for the Retreat that was special and they were so open  and engaging. The visits to the schools and the visits to the classes and share the experience with Br Edward and hearing his story was inspirational. The primary play and their Sacet spaces and so devoted to everything asked of them to the Staff reflection day and their own inputs were really impressive and finally with the Signum Fidei group and staff on Saturday and the great sharing  I hope it can be developed and extended to other countries going forward.

Thank you Stephen for making it possible and for everyone involved in its success.

Thanks again for the wonderful opportunity.

God bless you all and try and get a deserved break over Holy week and Easter.

Br Tom
