CHoRE gathering provides many insightful moments
CHoRE refers to a gathering of Chaplains, Head’s of RE and Animators from GB, which takes place every year at St Cassian’s, Kintbury. This year we were delighted to welcome two Chaplains from De La Salle College and Stella Maris in Malta and colleagues from St Bede’s Catholic College. All present felt especially privileged to have Brother Enrico Muller, from Italy, lead the reflections on this year’s theme of ‘Lasallian Spirituality’.
The time together began with a powerful reflection by Theo Arthur, St Joseph’s College, who shared his thoughts on how he lives Lasallian Identity and what it means to him in today’s world. There were many thought provoking and insightful moments which felt very relevant to the needs of young people and offered rich material for the group to unpick and discuss. Heather Ruple, Mission Team, shared further on the theme of Lasallian Identity, the origins of the 5 Core Principles of a Lasallian School and offered space for the group to connect with their ‘why’.
Brother Enrico led the group through moments of prayer and reflection, looking at the community of Casa Arcobaleno in Scampia and the importance of community within Lasallian Identity and Spirituality. Throughout all of this reflective time, the group held their focus with the young people served in the various ministries and were reminded to, ‘Recognise Jesus under the poor rags of those whom you instruct, adore him in them.’ (De La Salle, M.F 96.3.2)
Presentations from Cardinal Langley, De La Salle School, Basildon and St Gregory’s, provided much food for thought around key topics such as Catholic Social Teaching, Catholic Schools Inspection and the new Religious Education Directory. Leading to energised and fruitful conversation in small groups to close the programme.
St Cassian’s looked after the group beautifully over the two days, the warmth, wonderful food and excellent hospitality shown was very much appreciated by all. Thank you.
Gatherings such as this, which are so important in nurturing each other aswell as the community and those served, are only made possible because of the generosity of the GB Trust for funding such an event and for the Heads and teams on the ground who make it possible for colleagues to be released from school. The District Mission Team would like to extend sincere thanks for this and look forward to next year! (Save the date: 12th-13th March 2026)
