Combining creativity and Lasallian ethos at Waterford

Students at De La Salle College Waterford combined their creativity with their Lasallian ethos with two innovative projects in the school.

This beautiful new Five Core Principles mural was completed by one of our fifth year students - Sherwan Almohamad over his Easter holidays. It is displayed in our student entrance foyer.

Meanwhile, Some of our first year and TY students were involved in creating a flower-bed in the shape of our Lasallian Star.

De La Salle College's  Award Ceremony

This annual event was held in the college on Monday 13th May, where 185 students collected awards for a number of different reasons. Among these awards was our special 'Spirit of De La Salle Award' in remembrance of our former colleague, Owen Murphy, who passed away in November 2018.

The award recognises a sixth year student who showed a great respect throughout their time here in De La Salle, by developing lasting relationships with his classmates and teachers, and always showing effort and commitment to his work. Our sixth year student this year was Kurtis Calvo.

Opening of The Br Stephen Deignan Library

On De La Salle Day our newly refurbished library was named in honour of a former principal, Br Stephen Deignan. A great crowd were present including Br Stephen's family, Fergus Dunne (who recently published a book on the history of the college), Eunan Whyte (De La Salle Communications Officer), Pat Walsh (Director of Formation), our own De La Salle Brothers, past and present staff and students.

Br Anselm Tournament

Our U14 hurlers were crowned this year's winners of this annual event, when they beat Midleton CBS by 5-10 to 0-2.

 Navan Choral Festival

Our De La Salle Choir took second place in the National Youth Choir Category. They stayed in the De La Salle Retreat Centre in Castletown, on the way, where they performed for the community.

Lasallian Projects 2024

The construction of eight classrooms in Keelamudiman, Tamil Nadu, India will take place this summer, led by our very own Br Tommy Walsh. Br Tommy is fundraising hard at the minute for this project which will cost about €161,000. Himself and Br William have already visited a local salon to kickstart their fundraising activities!

Lasallian Competition

Several students competed in the annual Lasallian Competition in Castletown, where De La Salle students from all around the country entered. Our second year student, Ezzar Kiram won third prize for his fantastic entry. Ezzar's drawing of the Earth as a student, and the Lasallian Star as a Teacher showed that if we follow the Lasallian Core Principles, we as a community can be just as powerful as the Earth.
