Waterford students living Core Principles in many ways

This term has been very busy here in De La Salle College Waterford. We have had many different events, trips, initiatives etc. However, our biggest ongoing one at the minute is the HubSTAR Challenge, an innovative initiative launched by our Autism Class. This meaningful journey combines physical activity with positive change for autism support in schools, continuing our long-standing tradition of inclusive education.

De La Salle College Waterford has been at the forefront of inclusive education for over 130 years. The HubSTAR Challenge represents our commitment to creating more inclusive environments for neurodiverse students across Ireland by joining a movement that started in our autism class and is now reaching schools nationwide

Challenge Details:

• Distance Goal: You decide!
• Duration: Nov 19th until Feb 27th 2025
• Participation: Individual or Team
• Location: Your local area in Ireland

This initiative is in full swing, and has taken on a life of its own! Please find some photos attached.

All-Night Soccer 2024

Congratulations to all the first year students who participated in the traditional All-Night-Soccer in the sportshall during November and December. They raised over seven thousand euro towards the completion of eight classrooms in Tamil Nadu in India.

Our appreciation goes to all involved, the First Years of 2024/25, the support of school management and parents. For all the College former and present staff that assisted in any capacity during those nights, we are eternally grateful.

A special thanks to the LCA and the TY students who participated with the smooth running of the nights, which once again showed all the Lasallian Five Core Principles in action.

Basketball champions

Congratulations to the College U19 Basketball squad who recently were crowned the Southeast U19B Basketball champions 24/25.

After a slow start to the season they destroyed all opposition during their last four games. Before a large home support they defeated CBS Kilkenny in the final by  49pts to 45pts. What a display of courage and jubilant celebrations erupted at the final whistle to signal a dream fulfilled for this squad. An extremely happy captain Tom Grant received the cup to rapturous applause. Congratulations to Ms O’Shea and Ms McAuliffe their coaches.

Unfortunately our U16s squad were beaten CTI Clonmel by four points in the final.  Commiserations to all involved. Our U19 champions will complete in the All-Ireland play-offs in the new year. Every success lads you have certainly made us proud.

St Vincent de Paul

Last month, the SVP Conference within our school hosted an event for 1st year students in collaboration with Irish Guide Dogs. Four volunteers visited our school and gave the students a talk about their organisation and what they do, and allowed students to interact with the guide dogs. This event was enjoyed by all.

World Religions

As part of their religious studies on World Religions, Transition Year students visited the Irish Jewish Museum and the Islamic Cultural Centre in Dublin on Monday last. The students found the presentations very informative.
