Variety of events at De La Salle College Malta

The past month has been another very busy one for all at De La Salle College in Malta with staff and students undertaking formation, fundraising and Lenten activities, as well as taking part in Easter celebrations and Church visits.

St Cassians

It proved to be a very fruitful experience at St Cassian's Centre in Kintbury for a group of staff members from De La Salle College, Stella Maris and St Benild.

The group was following in the footsteps to continue the mission of our Founder, St John Baptist de La Salle.

When Lasallians unite, the future is bright.

Fundraising

Fundraising Activities were organised by the 5th Formers to support their Social Event which will be held at the end of their compulsory education period.

Well done to all students who planned and worked in excellent teamwork during the Car Wash days, Pizza Day and Hot Dog Day.

We would also like to thank students and staff, together with our sponsors who encouraged and supported such events and made them a success.

"I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things."

Mother Teresa

Our Lady of Sorrows

The procession is our life...our walk with Jesus and our Mother Mary.

Lenten talks

We would like to take the opportunity to thank the speakers of the Lenten Talks who helped our students reflect about their lives and their faith.

Fr Luke Cutajar - Form 5

Fr Christian Borg - Form 4

Mr Karl Frendo Cumbo - Form 3

Fr Andrew Galea - Form 1

Thanks also goes to Fr John Avellino, Fr Joseph Magro and Fr Allister Aquilina who were present and offered the sacrament of confession to our students and members of staff.

Lenten activities

'During the past three weeks, Form 2 students were given the opportunity for personal reflection during this time of Lent by means of three activities: Prayer Spaces; Penitential Service; and a short film discussion in class.

Thanks to all members of staff who made this possible and to

Fr Joseph Magro who was present for the sacrament of confession for the students.

Live in

Form 4 live-in, an opportunity for the students to reflect on their own value, what they value, and who they value.

Bank

Last week, our students collected items which were donated to the food bank organised by the chaplaincy at the University of Malta. This ties in with our core values of caring for the community.

Religion

In the Religion lesson in Form 1 we talked about the three major religions found around the world: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

These religions are called Monotheists because they all profess belief in one God.

As part of the ongoing assessment for this term, the students were asked to do a small project where they expose one of these religions.

These are some of the students' works from the classes:

1 Orange, 1 Green, 1 Blue, 1 Red and 1 White.

Egg hunt

On Wednesday 29th the Senior School Student Council organised a free event: Easter Egg Hunt. The students enjoyed themselves very much and the winners left with tasty treats.

Church visits

In the Visitation lesson from Form 1 Blue and 1 Orange classes at the Perinsinji Collegiate Church and Immaculate Conception Sanctuary, Bormla. The church is decorated with black damask to remind us that the grace of our salvation took place in the hour of darkness.

Young Parliamentarians

This was an unforgettable experience filled with much preparation, dedication and eloquence. Participation in Young Parliamentarians 2023 provided our students with the opportunity to experience the legislative procedure in our country. Despite not making it to the semi-final and final debates, the students did a fantastic job.

Sea Marvel Project

Students took park in an interesting and fruitful talk as part of the Sea Marvel project about marine biology and how we can help protect our oceans.

Form 1 History exhibition

Over the Easter holidays students were asked to come up with something creative, focusing on the topics and ancient civilisations covered during the year. Their work was outstanding and their enthusiasm contagious. Well done boys and thank you parents for your co-operation.

Visit to soup kitchen

De La Salle College strongly believes in the holistic education of our students. On Tuesday 25th April, a group of 15 students from Form 4 accepted the invitation to visit Soup Kitchen OFM in Valletta and experienced the joy of helping our fellow human beings, who are facing homelessness in Malta. Keep up the good work.
