The importance of reading at St Benild
The importance of reading and storytelling was highlighted at St Benild School in Malta over recent weeks with a number of activities organised.
Story Telling at its Best
At St. Benild School, great importance is given to storytelling. As J.K Rowling once wrote, "There's always room for a story that can transport people to another place." As a school, we have participated in a Culture Pass Project entitled 'Nature Tales' by Lignin Stories. Their stories are based on research and delivered in the oral tradition (meaning they are memorised and adapted for each audience). The pupils followed so attentively and were involved in every part of the session.
World Book Week 2022
World Book Week was celebrated in several ways. Namely, through a Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R) activity held by every class, outdoors.
Moreover, pupils were invited to participate in a Reading Challenge which encouraged the boys to read in different places such as under the stars, in bed, under a tree, to their pet.... Photos were taken and submitted by parents. A certificate of participation was awarded to all our avid readers.
Meet a local Author Activity
Pupils could pre-order books written by a young, local author, Ms Ruth Frendo. The books on offer presented the feature of augmented reality. This was a novelty to most young readers. The pupils enjoyed meeting the author in person, listening to the story being read out and going home with a signed copy of the book. The pride in their eyes said it all.
