Statement on St John’s College, Southsea

The Trustees of De La Salle are saddened to learn of the decision by the Governors of St John’s College Southsea to announce the closure of the College due to declining numbers of pupils.

The College was a De La Salle school until 2015 at which date De La Salle transferred the College, as a viable going concern, to an independently formed charitable company, ‘St John’s College Southsea Limited’. This company, which is entirely separate from the De La Salle Trust, took over the school’s assets and the running of the College.

De La Salle has had no governance responsibility for the College, nor for the maintenance of the College’s properties in the seven years since 2015.

The De la Salle Trustees, as ever, wish the pupils and staff the very best in their future endeavours.
