St Peter’s students enjoy memorable Lasallian Camp

Students from St Peter’s School, Bournemouth, recently travelled to St Cassian’s for Lasallian Camp 2022, with Luke Herford, Subject Leader RE, who reflected on a very enjoyable weekend.

Lasallian Camp 2022 – St Peter’s

Leaving school at 16:30 on Friday, 12 St Peter’s students (Carys, Maisie, Brooke, Aimee, Jack, Grazyna, Charlotte, Sylvia, Beatrice, Imogen, Angelina, Georgia), Juliette and I arrived at St Cassian’s Kintbury for the tenth Lasallian Camp.

Being the last to arrive (it seems to be a St Peter’s tradition!), we quickly had to erect the tents. Not an easy thing with novice campers, bendy poles, and fading light!

Friday evening involved getting to know other students in small groups mixed up from other Lasallian Schools (De La Salle St Helens, St Simon Stock, St Augustine’s, St Gregory’s, and De La Salle Basildon) and a night prayer around a camp fire.

Being situated in the lovely countryside of Berkshire, there is plenty of fresh air, open paddocks, woods, and bird song to get the campers awake in the morning. Saturday saw the students get involved in an array of activities – archery, a traversing climbing wall, a low ropes obstacle course, human table football, art work, and a walk to Kintbury village. These were done in the small groups and the students made friends with students from the other Lasallian schools.

Saturday night involved celebrating Mass in the marquee with some great singing led by Emily, and with Fr Des coming from Southampton.

There was plenty of free time, and good food to keep the students energised. The camp was magnificently led by Emma together with the young people from the past and present St Cassian’s Retreat Teams, the cooks in the kitchen, and John in the office.

The leaving reflection on Sunday involved the students creating a theme to say good-bye. The students wrote and performed a rap about the camp, together with our traditional rendition of ‘We Are Lasallian’ to the tune of ‘We are the Champions’ by Queen!

The trip back to school on Sunday involved a stop at services for McDonalds and Costa.

Overall, the students had a great time and are eager to go back for the next Lasallian Camp in 2023!
