Special celebrations at DLS High School
As the De La Salle High School in Downpatrick comes to the end of its final year, students and staff enjoyed two special celebrations - Founder’s Day and a Mass of Farewell.
Founder’s Day Treats for all
May 15th is a very special day for Lasallians the world over as we celebrate the life of our Founder, St John Baptist de La Salle. In our final year, the Student Animator group hosted a special sweet treat for everyone in our school community, offering croissants and pain au chocolat to everyone.
The school Animator, Mr. Keeley, and the wonderful group of Year 8, 9 and 10 students who have participated in the activities of the Student Animator Group this year, finished off their work by helping our kitchen team in serving the students and staff.
Later the school provided ice cream for everyone.
St John Baptist de La Salle believed that learning is very important but also that it is people who are the most valued of God’s creation. In celebrating Founder’s Day this year, everyone in De La Salle H.S. give thanks for his example.
Live Jesus in our hearts … forever!
Year 12 and Year 14 Mass of Farewell
On May 9th, 2024, the Year 12 and Year 14 groups came together with their teachers and families to celebrate a Mass of Farewell, marking an end of their time in De La Salle High School.
We were fortunate to have local Priest Fr. McMahon come to preside over the Eucharist, before everyone retired to the Post 16 Study for refreshments, including a beautiful cake and cupcakes that had been specially baked to mark this wonderful occasion.
The students, members of their families and the Form Teachers all enjoyed an afternoon of memories and laughter The students continue their preparations for their GCSE and A2 examinations in the coming weeks, and we wish them every success and blessing for the time ahead.
The Principal Mr Maguire spoke to the boys, expressing how proud of them the school is. Heads of Year 12 and 14 Mr Keeley and Mr Cherry are very proud of the students and wished them well as they move forward to their next great challenge.
