Senior School students enhance community through Core Principles
Students at De La Salle College Senior School took the opportunity to enhance their local community through living the Five Core Principles, by generously giving their time and energy to take part in voluntary work.
On Monday 21st October, Form 2 students had the opportunity to take part in a voluntary experience at ‘Dar tal-Kleru’ in Birkirkara.
A group of Form 2 students recently spent time at Dar tal-Kleru, bringing happiness to the residents through their thoughtful actions. They participated in Mass, listened to the priests’ stories and life experiences, and lent a hand with some gardening around the grounds. Their visit brought smiles to the residents, showing how meaningful shared moments can be. This experience gave the students a chance to learn the importance of service and the joy that comes from giving their time to brighten others' days.

The Yellows finished in second place with 102 points followed by the Blues in third place with 77 points whilst the Reds finished in fourth place with 68 points. Thanks for everyone who gave a helping hand for this event to be successful.
Robotics Club
The Mid-Day Break Robotics Club empowers students with Micro:bit Temperature Sensors. This initiative blends together education, technology, and teamwork. A group of enthusiastic students led by their teachers, who are participating in the Erasmus Project "Transition from STEM to Robotics", are using this club to teach younger students about robotics while fostering a collaborative spirit among peers. Recently they focused on the use of the temperature sensor in Micro:bit. The Micro:bit was programmed to detect a cold temperature and output the sign to inform the user accordingly.
On another day, they dived into coding with the sound sensor on the micro:bit, creating a fun tool to measure classroom noise levels! We also used the accelerometer to create a Step Counter just like the one we have on our Smart Watch! This hands-on project is part of our Erasmus project: Transition from STEM to Robotics, where our talented students are sharing their newfound skills with their classmates. Join us next week for more creativity and innovation!
Cyber Crime
Sergeant Matthew Sacco from the Cyber Crime Unit gave a talk to Form 4 students about cybercrime. Key points included the importance of staying safe online and avoiding sharing personal information with strangers. It was an informative and educational session for our students.
Soup Kitchen
"Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you". Princess Diana
The Chaplaincy at De La Salle College organised for the first group of Form 4 students to visit the Soup Kitchen OFM in Valletta as part of their holistic education within De La Salle College. It is vital that they become aware of the different experiences faced by our fellow human beings as well as realise the joy of helping them.
Midday Break Club
This year, we’ve introduced a relaxing and creative mid-day break club focused on Diamond Painting and Paint by Numbers. This club offers students a chance to unwind, explore their artistic side, and enjoy a calming activity during the school day. It helps reduce stress, improves focus and patience, and boosts confidence as students complete their artwork, all while fostering mindfulness and encouraging social connections.
Eco Captains
In the past weeks, our Eco-Captains have been busy preparing for the Eco-Christmas Class Decoration Competition. After last year’s success, we decided to refine this activity and relaunch it.
Our Eco-Captains brainstormed creative ideas for eco-friendly Christmas class decorations and also developed a marking scheme to evaluate each class. This morning, the activity was officially launched during the school assembly.
The competition will conclude on Monday, 9th December, and evaluations for each class will take place in the week following the closing date. Let’s celebrate the season sustainably — let’s make this holiday greener together!

During the visit, they explored various job roles within the hotel and observed its health and safety features. The experience also included a demonstration of formal table set-up techniques and a session on coffee preparation.
Waste separation
Last scholastic year, at De La Salle Senior School, a waste separation programme was started to reduce waste and make recycling easier. By sorting plastics, paper, and compostables, we are helping to protect our planet right from the classroom and our school grounds. Let's lead by example and show how small actions add up to big changes!

Community Clean-up
Coming together for a cleaner community! Our voluntary clean-up activities prove that collaboration connects us to achieve something greater.
In conjunction with these activities, we recently organised an exhibition at the school’s foyer containing a number of items which are cleaned during these clean-up activities. All our form 3 students had the opportunity to visit this exhibition. This was a cross-curricular activity with the history, geography and art departments. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues related to the subject.
Heartfelt thanks goes to Mr. Mark Galea Pace, from Coast is Clear, for his unwavering support in putting together this exhibition.
In addition, we thank our Form 3 students Liam Curmi and Gabriel Bonavia, who were the official photographers during the exhibition.
College Library
Last Summer, our college library was refurbished and restored. Instead of discarding the wooden archive, shelves, and windows, they were fixed and reused, preserving their quality and saving resources. The tiles were also restored by polishing and fixing them, giving the library a refreshed look without unnecessary waste.
Moreover, our team is dedicated to restoring old books, breathing new life into worn-out pages and covers, preserving knowledge for future generations. These efforts not only help reduce waste but also encourage a culture of responsibility and sustainability among students and staff.
The library team has created a mini library in each classroom whereby books were also placed there for the students’ perusal. These were placed in recycled paper boxes, promoting a creative eco-friendly approach to storage.
The Senior Library Team remains committed to continuing these practices and finding new ways to improve sustainability in the library.
Blood Donation
On November 21st, our college hosted a heart-warming blood donation activity, where sixth form students, and staff from all sections came together to make a difference. With the collective Lasallian spirit of faith, service and community, we came together in this noble act to save lives.
This event was more than just a donation - it was a testament to the power of unity and the impact of small acts of kindness. A big thank you to all the selfless donors and the dedicated blood donation unit team who made this event a success.
Let’s continue to inspire, support, and contribute to building a healthier community. Every donation counts, and every life saved matters.
