Promoting positive mental health in Beneavin

The T.A.L.K group in Beneavin De La Salle College have been working hard all term promoting positive mental health throughout the school and beyond. The group is linked to Cycle Against Suicide Headstrong Programme. This year as well as working on this programme the group are also working towards the Amber Flag. They try to meet at least every second Wednesday with some teachers.

This year for World Teachers Day the group provided treats for the staff in the College to thank them for all they do for them.  They also had an active role in Stand Up Week which promotes inclusivity and aims to combat homophobic and transphobic bullying.  Throughout November the group did a fundraiser as part of IN NOVEMBER WE REMEMBER.  They sold lightbulbs in memory of loved ones who have died.  The lights are all around the De La Salle Hall. Money raised went to the Samaritans.

In the run up to Christmas the group invited some of the residents from Beneavin House Nursing Home over, which is situated next door to the College, for some festive fun.  This was a wonderful day for both the students and the visitors, There was bingo and Christmas crackers as well as singing. The students are looking forward to building relations with their new acquaintances over the coming months and are already scheduled to pay them a visit shortly.
