Macroom students learn about inclusive community

De La Salle College Macroom welcomed James Moroney from Ireland’s Autism Charity, AsIam, visiting us in to give us a greater understanding of Autism and to help us foster empathy for our peers on the spectrum.

James worked with our Junior Cycle students along with their teachers. We gained valuable insights into how we can be more inclusive of difference in our school community at De La Salle College and in the wider community.

Elsewhere, it has been a busy start of the year as Sixth Year Geography students recently carried out their obligatory geographical investigation worth 20% of their Leaving Cert grade at Killarney National Park. They investigated geomorphic processes of transportation and deposition operating on a meander.

Second years were out in the sunshine early in the term to study some ecology in their Science lesson. They focused in particular on naming native Irish trees and birds.

Meanwhile, Ms. Dunne held a fantastic practical class in the Science Lab. The scalpels were out and the boys were dissecting hearts.
