Macroom students get creative for Founder’s Day

Students at De La Salle College Macroom used their artistic talents to create a new art display that was prepared in advance of this year's De La Salle Day. Mr. James O' Donovan was the teacher behind it all and is on the animation team.

This work of art was designed and created by our students in De La Salle Macroom. The art work depicts five stars with a hand gesture in each star representing the five core principles of our school; respect for all; faith; social justice; quality education; and inclusivity.

These five stars are in front of a jigsaw background in reference to our students on the autistic spectrum. The hand gestures are included to recognise the communication difference in our school and they ensure the work is accessible to students within our community who don't communicate verbally or through the written word and instead use visual aids to communicate.

Our hope was to create an art work which celebrates diversity and champions the principles that underpin the Lasallian ethos.

On Wednesday May 11th the school celebrated Founder’s Day. The ice cream van arrived at 10am and everyone attended Mass at Noon in St Colman’s Church. After Mass staff went for refreshments and a chat in the Castle Hotel. It was a very enjoyable day.
