Macroom Student Leaders help share the Mission
Students in De La Salle College Macroom have provided another example of how young people have a crucial role in sharing the Lasallian Ethos with the peers by implementing an initiative to spread awareness of the Mission.
The Student Leadership team at Macroom has taken responsibility for actively helping to share the message of our Mission throughout the school. The initiative is also very much in line with the comments of Brother Superior General Armin Luistro about the students becoming our future leaders when he addressed the Student Leadership gathering in Castletown.
The Student Leadership team consists of 4th year students, Alex Brophy, Darragh Donovan, Donagh Moss, Martin McCarthy, Robbie Magee, and Simon Condon.
They prepared and presented a very interesting and informative Powerpoint overview of the Lasallian Five Core Principles to Second Year students last week.
Their presentation covered not only the Lasallian Five Core Principles but the rich history of our Lasallian school and a history of Jean-Baptiste de La Salle's life. They also highlighted the good work of Lasallian schools from around the globe.
Well done to the student leadership team.
Anti-bullying awareness week
An anti-bullying awareness week took place in the college this week. All junior cycle students were given presentations, and a poster competition was held. The winners were awarded a prize for their artwork. Our expert art teacher, Mr O’Donovan, chose the winning posters.
Some students also composed very entertaining poems and raps. Thanks to all the students who participated in the competition.
Visitors
On Tuesday 12 November, Br Tommy Walsh (Auxiliary Visitor) and Pat Walsh (Director of Formation) visited the school.
They met with the principal, deputy principal, staff, students, the Lasallian student leadership team, parents association, auxiliary staff and board of management.
Literacy strategy
1st year students renewed their library books recently. As part of the schools literacy strategy, 1st years are given class time to take out and read books from the huge selection in the library.
A reminder that the school library is open to all staff and students who wish to take out a book. With over 2,000 books from every type of genre and different languages to pick from.
School of Life
Our Fourth Years had an incredible day at the “School of Life” workshop with Michelle Harding.
They delved into a world of old-school skills for the modern world, preparing them for their upcoming work experience in just two weeks.
Busy in the kitchen
Last Friday, our TY’s were busy in the kitchen making a delicious chicken curry!
