Fitting tribute to Br. Tim on Founder’s Day

The Lasallian Family in Waterford had an extra reason to celebrate Founder’s Day this year as they used the occasion to dedicate the new school building to the memory of Br. Tim O’Shea.

Following the traditional Mass, the new Br. Tim O’Shea wing was officially unveiled as a tribute to the man who had touched so many hearts with his dedication and generosity during his 60-year association with the college.

Br. Tim, who passed away on December 6th, 2022, was a very unassuming man who would probably be distressed by the naming of the building in his honour. However, when asked about an appropriate name for the building it was almost unanimous that it be named after him.

The esteem in which Br. Tim was held was reflected in the large attendance that included members of Br. Tim’s family, the Lasallian Family, The Board of Management, the Parents Association, the Student Council, past and present staff members, Brothers and friends of the College  who flocked to the chapel to be present for this wonderful occasion.

Br. Ben Hanlon spoke of the legacy of Br. Tim who touched the lives of many, many people and always in a positive and caring way. He epitomised the Lasallian way and treated everybody, no matter who they were, in a caring and gentle manner, always valuing the person. In retrospect, it probably explains why those who knew Br. Tim, felt he was their special friend…as indeed, he was. He had time and kindness in abundance for all.
