Events highlight sense of community at De La Salle Malta

Two recent events at De La Salle College Junior School Malta highlighted the wonderful sense of community that exists in the school, as students and teachers celebrated Ash Wednesday, while also undertaking an initiative to reduce paper waste.

Ash Wednesday

De La Salle Junior School in Birgu recently held a special event to commemorate Ash Wednesday. The event was split into two parts, a Special Assembly for younger students from Year 1 to 3, and a Mass for older students from Years 4 to 6, led by Fr Joe, the school chaplain. The aim of the event was to educate students about the significance of Ash Wednesday and to encourage them to reflect on their relationship with God.

The Asst Head in charge of the younger students at the college started the event with a prayer and explained the meaning of Ash Wednesday and the importance of the Lenten season. She reminded the students that this was a time to seek forgiveness for sins and to make changes in their lives. She also discussed the symbolism of the ashes, which were distributed to those who wished to receive them.

Fr Joe led the Mass for the older students. He spoke about the significance of Ash Wednesday in the Christian faith and emphasised the importance of repentance and forgiveness. He also discussed the symbolism of the ashes and encouraged the students to reflect on Lent.

Both events highlighted the sense of community that exists within De La Salle Junior School. Students and educators came together to celebrate this important occasion and to support each other in their spiritual journeys. The event provided an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of their faith and to reflect on their own lives.

The commemoration of Ash Wednesday at De La Salle Junior School was a meaningful and important event that brought students and educators together in the spirit of community. It provided an opportunity for students to reflect on their relationship with God. The school should be proud of its efforts in promoting spiritual growth and fostering a sense of community among its students.

Reduce paper waste

De La Salle Primary School in Malta is participating in the European Week for Waste Reduction Campaign for the third time. The school is focused on reducing paper waste by upcycling cloth to create reusable wallets instead of using envelopes for donations and school activities.

The school collected a large amount of material from parents and guardians, and volunteers, including retired educators, helped sew the wallets. The Eco School committee raised awareness through social media and explained the project to students before distributing the cloth wallets. The school is committed to reducing paper waste and is grateful for the contributions of those involved in the project.
